Expository Writing Prompts

Second Quarter Expository Process Prompts:

  • Compare your view of your future with your parents’ view of your future. Based on the comparison, reach a conclusion about your future.
  • Sometimes it is important to see a situation from another person’s point of view. Write an essay comparing and contrasting the importance of being able to see a situation from another person’s point of view
  • Technology prompt: Compare one smartphone you have used to another, or two web development platforms, or Snapchat to Telegram. Share your personal experiences of using these pieces of software and how they are different from advertisement promises.
  • Compare two kinds of sports that seem very far from each other, such as golf and rugby, or two of your favorite sports players, or two sporting events, such as the NASCAR and the Formula One. Make sure you point out the similarities or differences other people might be missing.
  • Select one of the quotes: explain why you chose this quote and what it means to you. Next, compare and contrast your life experiences with your interpretation of the quote:
    • “What garlic is to salad, insanity is to art.” – Homer St. Gaudens
    • “Against the grain should be a way of life/ What’s worth the price is worth the fight.” – Chad Kroeger

    • “To get others into our way of thinking, we must go over to theirs: and it is necessary to follow in order to lead.” – William Hazlitt
